End User License Agreement
The terms for using BRB. Download BRB here.
Version 1 · Effective November 2, 2026
This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is between you and Happy Hacks ("Happy Hacks", "we", "us"), the maker of BRB (Be Right Back, formerly called Doppleganger; the "Software"). By installing, opening or using the Software, or by buying a subscription, you agree to this Agreement. If you don't agree, don't install or use the Software.
1. What BRB is for
BRB is a courtesy tool for video meetings, classes and trainings. It lets you step away for a moment without disrupting everyone else: a quick restroom break, refilling your coffee, answering the door, or settling a child or a pet. Instead of your camera suddenly switching off or showing an empty chair, the other participants see a calm, ordinary picture of you until you're back.
It is meant for short, occasional breaks in meetings where being away briefly is acceptable.
2. What you must not use it for
You agree not to use the Software to:
- misrepresent your attendance, presence, attention or participation where they are actually required or measured, for example for attendance records, timekeeping or payroll, continuing-education or compliance credit, or graded participation;
- evade or defeat attendance checks, identity verification, exam or test proctoring, or any other control or purpose of a meeting, class, training, interview or assessment;
- take part, or appear to take part, in exams, tests, certifications, legal or court proceedings, medical or telehealth appointments, interviews, or any meeting where your live presence is required by law, regulation, contract or the organizer;
- deceive anyone in a way that causes them harm or gives you an unfair advantage, or impersonate anyone else;
- break the terms of service of your meeting platform, or the policies of your employer, school, client or the meeting's organizer; or
- break any law.
You are responsible for how you use the Software. Follow the rules that apply to each meeting you join. If you are unsure whether a short break with BRB is acceptable, ask the organizer, or simply turn your camera off instead.
3. Your license
Happy Hacks grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software on computers you own or control, in line with this Agreement.
- Free use: each computer includes a limited amount of free LOOP time, as described on brb.happyhacks.io.
- License keys: a license key (from a subscription or given to you by Happy Hacks) gives unlimited LOOP time on the number of computers it allows, normally one. License keys are for your own use; don't share, sell or publish them.
You may not: copy the Software except as needed to use it; sell, rent, lend or sublicense it; reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except where the law expressly allows this despite this restriction; or remove, disable or work around its licensing, time limits or device checks.
4. Subscriptions and payments
BRB Unlimited is a monthly subscription paid through Square at the price shown when you subscribe. It renews each month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time on brb.happyhacks.io/license; your key then keeps working until the end of the month you've paid for. Payments already made are not refunded, except where the law requires it. We may change prices for future billing periods, and will tell you before a change applies to your subscription.
5. Your information
To check free time and license keys, the Software sends brb.happyhacks.io a one-way scrambled identifier of your computer (based on its hardware), your computer's name, its operating system and app version, and your license key, if you have one. When you sign in with Happy Hacks or subscribe, we keep your name and email address, and Square processes your payment. We use this information only to provide and support BRB, and we don't sell it.
Your video, your loops and your recordings stay on your computer. The Software does not upload them.
6. Other people's products
BRB works with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Webex and other video meeting apps through a standard virtual camera. Those names are trademarks of their respective owners. BRB is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of them. On a Mac, BRB uses OBS Studio's virtual camera; OBS Studio is separate software with its own license.
7. Updates
The Software may update itself. Updates are covered by this Agreement unless they come with their own terms. If we change this Agreement, the Software will ask you to accept the new version.
8. No warranty
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We don't promise that the Software will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that a loop will be indistinguishable from your live camera.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, HAPPY HACKS IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, EMPLOYMENT, ACADEMIC STANDING OR REPUTATION, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SOFTWARE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM. You agree to indemnify Happy Hacks against claims arising from your use of the Software in breach of this Agreement, including Section 2.
10. Ending this Agreement
This Agreement lasts until it is ended. It ends automatically if you break it, including Section 2, and we may turn off your license key in that case. You can end it at any time by uninstalling the Software. Sections 2, 5, 8, 9 and 11 continue after it ends.
11. General
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. This is the entire agreement between you and Happy Hacks about the Software.
